Our Basic Philosophy
Our basic philosophy is to try to adhere to the teachings of God’s Word in everything we do. Since we are now under the New Testament (covenant; agreement) of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 8:6-7, 13; 9:15), the New Testament is our sole guide for faith and practice. We have no creeds or religious guidelines other than that provided by the New Testament.
As individuals, we identify ourselves as Christians (Acts 11:26). As a congregation, we identify ourselves as the church of Christ (Romans 16:16). This is to emphasize our relationship to the One who died to save us from our sins (1 Peter 2:24), and who now reigns as Lord – as head over the church, which is His body (Colossians 1:18).
As members of His body, we meet on the first day of the week (Sunday) to worship God “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24) as the New Testament instructs, encourage and build one another up in the faith (Hebrews 10:24-25), and learn more of God’s will for our lives through preaching and Bible study (Matthew 4:4; Ephesians 5:17). — Terry Schmidt
